Coronavirus Stimulus Scams to Avoid

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to heighten levels of uncertainty in our community, scammers have set their sights on attacking the personal and financial information of unsuspecting consumers.

Since the recent announcement of government stimuli checks, increased attempts to gain your personal information and account access have gained momentum. We urge you to use caution when clicking on suspicious links or answering robocalls. Just one click of a link or button can allow access to your information.

The government and the FTC predict that scamming will rise as stimulus payments are distributed and processed. Please remember neither OnPath Federal Credit Union nor the United States Government will:

  1. Call to ask for your:
  • Social Security Number
  • Bank Account Number(s)
  • Bank Account Login and/or Password Information
  • Credit/Debit Card Number

  1. Ask you to pay anything up front to get stimulus funding. No fees. No charges.
  2. Contact you by phone call or email under the premise of getting you more funding or a faster deposit.

Remember, no matter by whom you are contacted and how - phone, e-mail, text message, or web - be wary of urgent appeals or outright demands that you provide personal data.

The OnPath FCU team is here for you. Please report suspicious account activity to us by phone at 504.733.7274, 800.749.6193 or email at memberservice at asifcu dot com.
