Courtesy Pay & Overdraft Protection
It’s our way of giving you a little extra cushion when you need it.
We’ve got you covered.
With Courtesy Pay, you can tackle unexpected expenses without the stress.
We authorize and pay overdrafts for members 18 and older at our discretion for checks and other transactions made using your checking account number, automatic bill payments, ACH transactions, and other electronic funds transfers.
Details of Courtesy Pay
- When Courtesy Pay is utilized, the credit union charges a Courtesy Pay Fee of $32 per paid transaction that would have otherwise been declined without incurring a fee or returned due to non-sufficient funds and incurred an NSF Fee of $32.
- Courtesy Pay allows an eligible checking account to be overdrawn up to the account’s disclosed Courtesy Pay limit to pay transactions or items as a courtesy service for members who are in good standing.
- The member is expected to bring the account back to a positive balance with one or more deposits into the account within 35 days.
- Overdrafts are paid at the discretion of the credit union. OnPath FCU is under no obligation to pay an overdraft, and payment of overdrafts is not guaranteed.
Your First Line of Defense
Overdraft Protection is designed to be a more proactive solution to overdrafts.
Overdraft Protection functions by automatically transferring funds from a designated source to your checking account when the balance hits zero. These sources include Savings (Share) Accounts, Money Market Accounts, and Lines of Credit.
Details of Overdraft Protection
-
If Overdraft Protection is set up, the system always attempts to pull funds from your linked account or LOC first. There will be a $3 fee for the automatic transfer to cover the overdraft.
-
Courtesy Pay acts only as a "safety net" or backup service if Overdraft Protection is exhausted or not configured. In other words, if you have OD Protection configured but there isn't enough money to cover your overdraft transaction, Courtesy Pay will kick in and cover the transaction for a $32.00 fee.
-
The linked savings or money market account must have a sufficient available balance to cover the full amount of the transfer. If utilizing a Line of Credit, the member must have enough remaining credit limit to facilitate the transfer.
-
Unlike Courtesy Pay, Overdraft Protection must be manually established by the member to designate which specific accounts should be used for the transfers.
